Zero Waste Shops

These places have been tried and tested - they're happy for you to bring your own containers to refill from their bulk selection. Do contact us with your recommendations from your neighbourhood.

Food

Centre
  • Natural Corner Food store in the centre (off Rue Lombard) with a wide selection of lentils, mueslis, seeds and chocolatey goodies sold by weight. Also refills your Ecover cleaning products, sells them in huge vats so you can buy detergent once a year.
  • Färm Store Organic store in Ste Catherine, offers dry goods in bulk.
  • Den Teepot Organic store on Rue des Chartreux, dry goods in bulk.
  • Les Ateliers des Tanneurs Organic market in the Marolles. Widest range of bulk goods in Brussels: fresh produce, dry goods (including pasta), cookies, red wine and olive oil. Open Weds - Sun.
  • Crèmerie de Linkebeek Sells milk in returnable glass bottles. Just off Rue Antoine Dansaert, in front of Ste Catherine church. 
  • À L'Ombre De L'Olivier Specialists in olive oil and other olive products. High-end oils available in bulk (see photo). Rue du Vieux Marché aux Grains.
Ixelles

  • Bio-Shanti Organic food store with tubs of grains and flour. ULB area.
  • Tan Rue de l'Aqueduc, near Châtelain. Delux organic shop with grains in dispensers and sometimes milk (cow's and goat's) in returnable glass bottles.
  • Eden. Wide range of freshly-ground coffees and teas by weight, in Chatelain area.
  • Dolma on Chaussée d'Ixelles refill your Ecover cleaning product containers and sell fruit juice in returnable glass bottles. Bulk section scheduled to open summer 2014.
  • Outdoor markets on Place Flagey (Saturday and Sunday) and Place Châtelain (Wednesday) for cheese, olives, eggs, fresh pasta, milk and yoghurt, dried fruit, nuts, Italian and Greek food. 
Etterbeek
  • Be Positive Organic food and cosmetics store on Place Jourdan. Sells dry goods such as muesli, nuts, dried fruit, quinoa by weight. Open 7/7

Other products
  • Lush. Perfect for packaging-free shampoo (get your metal container for refillable solid shampoo bars), soap and bath products. On Place Stéphanie or Rue des Fripiers in the centre. Also sell Furoshiki - japanese fabric gift wrapping that lasts forever!
  • Dille & Kamille Another reason to love every Brusseleer's favourite kitchen shop - as well as selling all the glassware you will ever need to store food in, they also sell herbs and spices loose by weight, packaging-free soaps and plastic-free household items. 
  • Les Savons de Lyna, Rue Haute 101, sell natural packaging-free soaps.
  • Senz Cosmetics near Chatelain sells everything you need to make your own cosmetics, including plastic-free containers as well as offering regular workshops to show you how.

Re-use services

Where do your old things go to die? There are plenty of options that will help you clear space in your home and give another life to your things.
H&M clothes collection at Porte de Namur
  • Les Petits Riens - Rue Américaine, Ixelles for donating bric-a-brac, bins around the city for clothes and shoes, collection service for collecting furniture and bulky items.
  • Oxfam has second hand stores around the city and bins for donating used clothes, textiles and shoes.
  • H&M collect clothes and textiles for reuse and recycling in in-store bins
  • Recupel take your old electronics and upcycle what they can use.
  • Cash converters buy your electrical appliances, DVDs, CDs etc for resale.
  • eBay can be used to buy and sell anything in decent condition for a good price.
  • Convivial is an excellent organisation that equips refugees' homes with your unwanted furniture and home supplies. They can collect from your home.
